Triple threat as Alumni team officially enters competition

One of the most anticipated events of the year is almost upon us as teams prepare for the annual St. Mary’s University Valentine Cup, a fiercely contested ball hockey tournament that will feature a team of St. Mary’s Faculty, a team of students and for the first time ever, a team of St. Mary’s alumni.

A year’s worth of preparation, gamesmanship and friendly verbal jousting will come to a head on October 5th, 2017 on the Valentine Courts which were donated to St. Mary’s by the Valentine Family.
“After four years of play, the student team has won twice, but the staff and faculty team has now won two years in a row!” said Bob Hann, Vice President Student Services and extremely passionate member of the staff/faculty team. “I think our staff and faculty team is still strong enough to take the trophy again, but it will be a closely fought tournament.”

The addition of a third team will add an extra dimension to what has already been a fierce rivalry as the St. Mary’s Alumni squad looks to stake their claim to the Valentine Cup and a year’s worth of bragging rights.

Will the staff and faculty continue their recent streak of success? Will the student team regain former glory? Or will the new team come in and capture the Valentine Cup on their first try? No one knows for sure what the outcome will be, but one thing is for certain, it’s bound to be a great time!
