St. Mary’s University to host Summer Art Camps
St. Mary’s University is preparing for the summer in a big way with some dynamic new opportunities for children and youth.
During the weeks of July 9 – 13 and 16 – 20, Summer Art Camps will be offered for two age groups, Grades 4 – 6 and Grades 7 – 8, where the children will learn the basics of Calligraphy from none other than Susan Keyes, an active member of the Bow Valley Calligraphy Guild who has many years of experience teaching Calligraphy to varying age groups.
Susan will be guiding the campers into a unique experience of learning some of the Calligraphic fundamental practices using unique materials and special tools.
During both weeks, participants in the Summer Art Camps will have another exciting opportunity of learning about Glass Mosaics from local stained glass artist Janice Wilson, whose creative use of colour and patterns is sure to capture the imagination of students.
Art is a creative and pleasurable experience of expression and there is no one better to show the campers this fun side of art than Shelly-Ann Guinn, a professional artist and calligrapher with significant experience teaching both children and adults. During the second week of camp, Shelly-Ann will be sharing special Calligraphy opportunities with campers.
Students in these summer camps will also get to experience their own version of university campus life and the beauty of south Calgary thanks to the amazing location of the St. Mary’s University’s campus. Camp attendees will get to explore Fish Creek Park, refining sketching skills while enjoying the natural wonder of the outdoors.
In addition, many fun-filled recreational activities will be interspersed throughout each week that are sure to keep the mind and the body active.
Each Friday afternoon, parents are invited to come to campus and celebrate their children’s learnings in an Art Exhibit Showcase where all of the wonderful works will be on display.
