Sofiia-Solomiia Furtak and Bohdana Kunikevych arrived at St. Mary’s in January and quickly immersed themselves in the school culture. Whether it was delving deep into their studies within the psychology program or participating in campus life and making new friends, Sofiia and Bohdana have made a lasting impact on the St. Mary’s community.
The two ladies are the latest students to venture from Lviv to Calgary as part of the formal academic, research and cultural exchange between the two Catholic Universities that also saw three St. Mary’s Bachelor of Education Students travel to Lviv this year as well.
“The professors were great, the way they taught and the support they gave was amazing,” said Sofiia. “It’s been a great pleasure and I’ve really learned a lot from every course I took. It’s been a big step that has helped develop me a lot.”
For Bohdana, the experience of being at St. Mary’s and in Canada will have a lasting impact on her life.
“From the University I got a new approach of being a student and the approach from the professors on how they teach the students,” explained Bohdana. “I think it could be very useful in Ukraine, it’s such an easy and outgoing atmosphere here.”
“About Canada we’ve learned to be more polite,” joked Bohdana. “Here you get to know what is important to you and what you want to do with your life.”
